One day to go before our great day arrives.

We have been showered with questions from many of you that have not attended before, so here are some answers to popular questions.

Will there be tickets available on the day?

Yes you will be able to pay on the day but not at the reduced early bird price.

Do we need to wear our uniform?

No uniform is not compulsary but you need to wear clothing that is loose & comfortable so that you can move freely and have fun. We recommend you wear your uniform trousers/tracksuit bottoms and a Genesis T shirt. If you wish to be photographed and featured in our reports please wear a Genesis uniform or Genesis T Shirt/Hoodie.

Do we need to attend all of the sessions advertised?

No you do not. All attendees are free to pick and choose which sessions they wish to take part in. However some sessions that require equipment such as weapons training maybe closed off when full. If you wish to just bounce around on the castle or just play some of the mini challenges on the day to win prizes, that’s fine.

What do we do with tokens that we receive after completing a session?

Every youth participant will be given some tokens after a session. They can save the tokens up to go to the Genesis Tuck shop and get free treats!!!

What equipment will we need to bring?Genesis MA - Junior Kickboxing

If you are coming to play speed chess in a session or on the bouncy castle you will need full sparring equipment. For Pyramid pad session you will need gloves and focus mitts. there will be a small selection of equipment and merchandise on sale for you if you wish to purchase items on the day.

Will there be anywhere to leave our kit?

There are lockers in the entrance area of the Leisure centre but you will need to bring a padlock to secure it. We will be providing a small area in the hall for people to leave their bags and kit but it will only be small and will not be securely monitored. If you have any valuables or items of high importance please do not leave then unattended.

Look forward to seeing you all, if you have any other questions please ask your instructor directly.

As well all of the fun and games coming to you at the end of year Training & Awards, we have an area dedicated to our adult students and friends who would like to come along and get a some work done.

Our friend Vladimir Ivanov from Bulgaria will be taking you through your paces with some functional training using the Bulgarian Bag. This functional 3 dimensional training class will hit your muscles from all angles and get you moving through various planes of motion. A great workout for all martial athletes and a BLAST that does the job FAST!

We also have a self defence session for adults which is ideal for parents to have a go at and hopefully take away some great ideas that maybe of use to them or their family.

“Anyone can come, so bring ya dad and ya mum”

There will be other challenges to take part in on the day

One of the games that will be played at  End of Year Training Awards is Kickboxing Speed Chess. Many students have been asking how to play it, so here are the rules and what to expect. Some of the instructors may be playing it in your class over the next couple of days. Sparring equipment is neded to take part in this game

Speed Chess

Objectives

Fun, encourage team work and strategy, improve sparring skills, to encourage sparring attacking.

2 helpers, 2 whistle 1 timer 2 soft batons/blockers

small area maximum half badminton court

Players full sparring equipment (see below)

3-5 players per team

1 king/queen (best technical player)

2 pawns (punch only no kickers worn)

2 Rooks (punch & kick full equipment)

(pawns are useful if there are students without full equipment but may have gloves can borrow head guard, they will need their own gum shield!)

Game time kids 2 mins Adults 3 mins

Time stops every time the whistle is blown to signify a score (‘taken players’) and or knighting ceremony.

  • To win you must hit the king on opposing team above the waist in scoring area. If at the end of game time both kings/queens are in the game, the team with the most players wins. If the same amount of players are left in the game, the team with the highest valued players wins. (I.e. 1 knight & 1 rook beats 2 rooks.)
  • If you hit a pawn or rook that player is out of the game
  • Any player that is out gets taken. Taken means they stand behind the scoring team in horse riding stance for the remaining time of the game
  • Weapon bonus To encourage the king to fight (rather than sit on their throne and be protected) for the every team member they eliminate, they have opportunity turn one of their 2 rooks into a knight. The referee will then give the selected rook (knighting ceremony) the baton, known as The Blam Stick or ‘Blamma’. The knight may then have feet for kicking, 1 glove for punching and the Blam stick for blamming.

Please note

  • Only one ‘Blam Stick’ per team per game
  • If the knight gets eliminated the weapon is returned to the referee and is dead for the game

Players will get taken by default for the following reasons:

Failure to stop when whistle is blownGenesis MA - Corey Cain

Excessive contact

Leaving the chess playing area.

Disqualifications will occur for the following reasons:

Arguing with the referee

Loss of temper

Swearing

Demonstration of un sportsmanlike behaviour

If time runs out winning team is the team with most players

Losing team 1 token winning team 2 tokens

Tokens can be exchanged for treats & sweets throughout the day!

Putting our students 1st

Genesis Martial Arts will be encouraging our students to test their skills at the GB Grand Slam taking place on the 17th June at The K2 Centre in Crawley, 9am-4pm. Genesis Instructors will be there on the day to coach and assist you.

It is a great opportunity for novice and advanced fighters who have not fought before to experience competing against other club/association members in a structured and controlled manner. The GB Grand Sam team is headed by none other than Jacey ‘2 Fast 4 U’ Cashman and ran in the memory of his father Tony Cashman who sadly passed away a few years ago. This is a semi contact points event only so please speak to your instructor.
